Akim was born and raised in New York City. In his college years he studied Criminal Justice and Radio Engineering.
During this time he also became VERY interested in Japan.
He went on to study Japanese for a year as well live in Japan's old capital of Kyoto for 8 months. This experience really helped to deepen his connection to Japan which

He went on to study Japanese for a year as well live in Japan's old capital of Kyoto for 8 months. This experience really helped to deepen his connection to Japan which led to him moving there after graduating from college.
While teaching has been his main job he has also done Voice-Over work, translation, podcasting and singing in his free time
Akim has lived and taught in Japan for over 20 years. Before his previous job as an instructor/school manager he worked as an ALT in Junior High Schools (plus some elementary schools) for 7 years.

Akim has lived and taught in Japan for over 20 years. Before his previous job as an instructor/school manager he worked as an ALT in Junior High Schools (plus some elementary schools) for 7 years.
As an ALT he enjoyed the opportunity to work with other teachers and especially the students. Often working with students after school on different activities including English club, Speech prep and English plays.
Later he moved on to work at the well known English conversation school Berlitz Japan for over 10 years. Starting as an instructor teaching for all ages he later moved into management and training for lesson quality within different schools of the company. This has given him a unique perspective for stakeholders on the Instructor, staff and student sides
Due to the pandemic he began teaching students online and later trained other instructors how to do so for both adult and kids classes.
Teaching is still a joy for him and he continues to build his skills in this area
Akim has worked part time in various fields of entertainment over the years.
In University he minored in Radio Engineering. He trained and worked at the FM college radio station WCWP 88.1FM as an on-air personality. He later hosted and produced jazz and Japanese music programming in addition to lending his voice to production work for line

He later hosted and produced jazz and Japanese music programming in addition to lending his voice to production work for liners and PSAs (Public Service Announcements).
His career highlights during this time include interviews with jazz legend Eddie Palmieri, New Age artist John Tesh, Japanese pop star Kubota Toshinobu and more. During this time Akim developed a distinct vocal style, which includes being soft, clear and pleasant.
In Japan he continued on this track by establishing JIN Radio, a podcast with the goal of introducing indies music artists in Japan. This podacst is featured on www.japanindies.com
In addition to occasional appearances on Japanese TV shows, A'kim has done voice-over work for an educational DVD and in smaller promotion videos on YouTube
